The timeless silhouette of an angle lamp oozes retro chic, whether it’s being used for its original design as task lighting, or to add a cosy glow to a corner.
Designed in the 1960s by British lighting company 1001 Lamps, one lucky Reclaim reader can win this classic desk lamp from & VNTG, worth £165, which has been fully rewired in their workshop with braided cable and has a new three-pin UK plug.
‘This is such a statement piece and would look equally great styled with some plants on a sideboard, or placed on its own on a side table for maximum impact,’ says Sallie-Ann Salter, co-founder of & VNTG along with her husband John.
& VNTG started when the couple were renovating their 200-year-old Devon cottage on a tight budget, and Sallie-Ann sourced second-hand furniture and learnt the skills needed to renovate it. ‘As I sold pieces to make space for new things, I realised there was a demand for quality, restored vintage furniture,’ she recalls. ‘I get a real buzz from sourcing vintage pieces, returning them to their best and getting positive feedback from happy buyers.’
The online store specialises in mid-century and industrial furniture, lighting and home accessories. ‘I was born in the 1970s so grew up surrounded by mid-century furniture. It has such a familiar, authentic appeal and adds a cool edge to modern interiors – it has stood the test of time,’ says Sallie-Ann.
Mid-century sideboards are the most popular item at & VNTG and always get snapped up quickly as, according to Sallie-Ann, they work well in most interior styles and are practical too.
‘My absolute favourite piece of furniture is the Ladderax shelving unit from Staples which I have as a desk in my office,’ she admits. ‘I often find it hard to let go of pieces, but we’ve now run out of space in our little cottage!’
